Kansas City Chiefs in Prime Spot to Trade for DeAndre Hopkins
The trade of Tyreek Hill in the 2022 offseason sparked concerns about the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense. However, those doubts were proven wrong as Patrick Mahomes won his second MVP award, and the team secured their second Lombardi Trophy in four years.
As the team prepares for the 2023 season, adjustments are necessary on offense. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman left in free agency, signing with the New England Patriots and New York Jets, respectively.
Despite the departures, the Chiefs still have talent at the wide receiver position. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, last season’s free agent signing, remains on the roster. Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore, young pass catchers, are expected to develop further.
In free agency, the Chiefs added Richie James from the New York Giants. They also used a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft on Rashee Rice from SMU.
However, the group lacks experience beyond Travis Kelce and Valdes-Scantling, leading to trade rumors surrounding the Chiefs.
DeAndre Hopkins of the Arizona Cardinals continues to be mentioned as a potential target. Despite Monti Ossenfort dismissing the trade rumors after the draft, Hopkins recently hinted at his preferred teams, including the Chiefs due to his connection with Mahomes.
Following Hopkins’ appearance on I AM ATHLETE, the odds of a trade to the Chiefs surged at Bookies.com. The Chiefs now have the second-highest odds (+300), trailing only the Cardinals (+200). This implies a 33.3 percent probability of Hopkins staying with the Cardinals in 2023, while the Chiefs have an implied odds of 25 percent.
