Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani can’t be too pleased about the recent developments regarding his finances and his translator, Ippei Mizuhara, as MLB’s Opening Day approaches.
On Wednesday, it was reported that the Los Angeles Dodgers had fired Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.
Representatives of Ohtani alleged that Mizuhara was involved in a “massive theft” of Ohtani’s funds.
They claim the interpreter misappropriated funds to place bets with an allegedly illegal bookmaker, who is currently under federal investigation.
Following this development, Ohtani’s involvement in the matter began to come into question with rumors circulating that Ohtani himself may have actually been the one involved in the gambling or that the funds were not actually “stolen,” but instead were provided to Mizuhara by Ohtani in order to cover his gambling losses.
As anticipated, the MLB announced on Friday that an investigation has officially been launched and social media went into a frenzy.
The reaction on X has been plentiful.
Ohtani, who recently signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers, has not issued a statement on the matter.
