Speculation surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers’ potential shift away from quarterback Kenny Pickett has intensified due to the team’s recent social media activity.
A keen-eyed Steelers fan account, @Gaige_Rage, highlighted the absence of any posts featuring Pickett from the team’s social media platforms for over two months. This has led some to speculate whether the silence from the social media team indicates insider knowledge that Pickett won’t be the starting QB in 2024.
In light of this observation, numerous fans have begun to entertain the idea that Pittsburgh is indeed preparing to part ways with the third-year quarterback.
Following the 2023 season, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced plans to introduce quarterback competition for Pickett. With the release of backup Mitch Trubisky already confirmed and third-stringer Mason Rudolph, who finished the season as the starter, set to enter free agency, Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation remains in flux.
Should the Steelers opt to give Pickett another chance to assert himself as the starter, they may forego signing top free agent Kirk Cousins. Instead, they could pursue alternatives such as Ryan Tannehill, Russell Wilson (if released by the Denver Broncos), Jameis Winston, or Gardner Minshew II.
There’s also speculation regarding a potential trade for Justin Fields, considering the Chicago Bears’ anticipated move to restart at QB by selecting Caleb Williams with the first overall pick.
