Pat McAfee delivered a fiery critique of the Indianapolis Colts on social media Sunday, sparking a heated conversation among fans and analysts. The former Colts punter, now a prominent media personality, didn’t hold back as he addressed the team’s dismal performance this season and their latest embarrassing loss—a 45-33 defeat to the 3-13 New York Giants.
McAfee’s frustration boiled over after the loss, which dealt a significant blow to the Colts’ playoff aspirations despite facing a struggling Giants team vying for the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick.
The outspoken former All-Pro shared his thoughts in a scathing post on X (formerly Twitter), responding to a fan urging him to be candid on Monday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show. McAfee, however, couldn’t wait that long.
In a lengthy post, McAfee lambasted the Colts for what he described as a toxic culture and lack of professionalism, even going so far as to announce that he will not be renewing his season tickets. He pulled no punches in his criticism, saying the team’s arrogance, laziness, and lack of preparation were the root of their continued struggles.
McAfee’s Full Statement:
“Your unwarranted arrogance, laziness, and lack of professionalism have led you to ANOTHER early vacation… which is probably what most of you entitled bums have been hoping for,” McAfee wrote.
He detailed a litany of issues within the organization, citing players being late to meetings, skipping treatments, and even the franchise quarterback tapping out of a game on a crucial third-down play due to fatigue. McAfee pointed to these instances as emblematic of a “loser attitude” permeating the organization.
“That’s literally the only thing you need to tell someone who knows ball, and they could tell you everything about this team,” McAfee continued. “It’s a locker room issue… it’s a culture issue… that’s an indicator of a loser attitude radiating through a building that was built by greats.”
McAfee’s History With the Colts
As a former Colts player who spent his entire eight-year NFL career with the franchise, McAfee’s criticisms carry weight. He was part of an era defined by success, playing alongside Peyton Manning and later Andrew Luck. During his tenure, the Colts made the playoffs five times and won the AFC South four times. By contrast, the current Colts team has failed to make the playoffs since 2020 and has shown little progress toward becoming a contender.
This perspective helps explain McAfee’s deep disappointment with the current state of the team. He expressed sympathy for the long-time staff members within the organization, such as trainers and equipment managers, but made it clear that the players and coaches deserve the consequences of their poor performance.
Fan and Player Reactions
McAfee’s comments resonated with many Colts fans, who have voiced similar frustrations throughout the season. However, not everyone agreed with his harsh critique. Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin, who hosts his own podcast, The Trenches Show, previously made McAfee a target of criticism for his outspoken takes on the team. Fellow linebacker EJ Speed joined Franklin in portraying McAfee as an adversary, which likely fueled McAfee’s unfiltered response.

Looking Ahead
The Colts now face an offseason filled with uncertainty. After failing to capitalize on significant investments in their roster, including the signing of rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, the organization must reckon with a mounting culture problem and underwhelming results on the field.
As McAfee summed up his post: “I’ve never seen a group waste opportunities, talent, and money more than this group.”
Whether his words will spark any changes within the organization remains to be seen. For now, McAfee’s critique stands as a searing indictment of a team that has fallen far short of expectations.
