Following his passing, TMZ released a report detailing the challenges O.J. Simpson faced before his death.
According to their account, Simpson fought prostate cancer for more than a year, experiencing a significant decline in health over the last 11 months.
“Despite the brave face he put on, our sources tell us the cancer was not at all in remission and greatly impacted his health,” TMZ reported. “Whereas, we’re told, he lived as if he were a younger man — even into his later years — his physical state seriously deteriorated over the past 11 months.”
According to the report, Simpson was “in and out of the hospital for about 6 months.”
In the final stages of his illness, O.J. Simpson needed hospice care and was discharged from the hospital two weeks prior with a hospice care plan in place.
TMZ noted that the controversial 76-year-old was “in and out of consciousness…sleeping a lot” in his final days.
