In a recent episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward, Olympic gymnastics legend Simone Biles surprised fans by naming Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as her favorite NFL player, even placing him above her own husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens. While Biles has always been vocal in her support for Owens, she couldn’t help but marvel at Mahomes’ extraordinary skills on the field.
Biles acknowledged Owens’ impressive journey as an undrafted player now thriving in his seventh NFL season, but when asked about her favorite player outside of her husband, she didn’t hesitate.
“Besides my husband, I really think we always go back to Patrick Mahomes,” she told Heyward during the podcast.
She went on to describe Mahomes as a “freak of nature” for his ability to pull off seemingly impossible plays and lead his team to victory, often in dramatic fashion. “The Chiefs could be down, and he’s just a miracle worker,” Biles said. “He’d probably kill me for saying that or admitting it, at least,” she joked, acknowledging that it might be a surprise to Owens, given her praise for Mahomes.

Despite her admiration for Mahomes’ on-field abilities, Biles’ love and support for Owens is undeniable, as their relationship continues to grow stronger. Recently, Biles made a heartfelt gesture by getting a tattoo of Owens’ initials on her ring finger, a symbol of their deep commitment to each other. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Biles shared the story behind the tattoo, revealing that it was a surprise for Owens, who has a similar tribute inked on his own finger.
“It’s very sentimental, and he has an ‘S’ on his ring finger as an ode to me,” Biles explained. “He loves me so much, and I love him, and I knew that it would be such a big surprise.” She admitted that she had previously told Owens she wouldn’t get a tattoo, making her decision even more special.
“I wanted to surprise him because he already got his, and I kept telling him, ‘No, I’m not doing it,'” Biles recalled. “So, he actually woke up in the middle of the night, and I had just landed in San Francisco, and he was like, ‘I am going to cry.'” The sweet moment was a testament to the couple’s bond and how much they mean to each other.
Biles’ tattoo tribute came not long after her historic return to gymnastics at the Paris Olympics, where she earned three gold medals, cementing her status as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Despite his own busy schedule with football camps, Owens flew to Paris to support his wife, cheering her on during her Olympic competitions and celebrating her victories by her side.
The couple’s relationship has been defined by their mutual support and admiration for one another. Whether it’s Owens standing proudly in the stands at Biles’ competitions or Biles cheering for her husband during his NFL games, their love story has been a constant source of inspiration to fans. While Biles may admire Mahomes’ “freak of nature” talent on the field, her heart clearly belongs to Owens, as they continue to navigate their lives and careers together.
As Biles and Owens continue to build their lives, their strong bond remains a key part of both their personal and professional journeys.
Whether it’s through heartfelt tattoos or surprise visits to international competitions, the couple’s devotion to each other is clear. And while Biles may hold Mahomes in high regard as an NFL player, there’s no doubt that Owens is her number one.
