Robert Griffin III’s wife, Grete, is embracing positivity and focusing on the bright side after her husband’s unexpected departure from ESPN.
On Monday, Grete shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “The category is: Peace & Happiness,” accompanied by a series of photos of the couple smiling and enjoying themselves at the 2024 Harold & Carole Pump Foundation gala in Beverly Hills on August 16. The event marked a public appearance for the pair just days after Griffin’s departure from the sports network.
Grete’s uplifting post came shortly before ESPN announced that Louis Riddick would be stepping in to replace Griffin in the network’s college football coverage. Griffin, who had been a prominent college football and NFL analyst for ESPN, was let go as part of the network’s budget cuts. He was released alongside “Sunday NFL Countdown” host Sam Ponder in a move that surprised many fans and industry insiders.
Despite the sudden career shift, Griffin and Grete appeared to be in high spirits at the gala. The event, held at the Beverly Hilton, brought together celebrities and sports figures to raise funds and awareness for cancer treatment and research. Grete, a former track & field athlete, looked stunning in a black dress with a plunging halter neckline, while Griffin complimented her beauty in the comments, writing, “Holy Moly look at those eyes,” in reference to her striking blue eyes.

In the wake of his firing, Griffin hinted at future plans on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, he shared a message with his followers, saying, “Questions answered here soon,” and provided a link to his YouTube channel, suggesting that he may address the situation more directly in the near future.
In a separate Instagram post, Grete acknowledged the emotional toll of the recent events, describing the past few days as a “whirlwind of emotions.” However, she emphasized that they were determined not to let anything get in the way of their commitment to supporting the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation. “We weren’t gonna let anything get in the way of us helping the foundation raise funds and create awareness for the treatment and cure of cancer,” Grete wrote, highlighting their dedication to the cause despite the challenges they were facing.
As ESPN moves forward with its new lineup, Mike Greenberg has been named the new host of “Sunday NFL Countdown,” replacing Ponder. Additionally, Louis Riddick will take on dual roles, including calling “Monday Night Football” games when ESPN has two games scheduled, and contributing to the network’s college football coverage.
Robert Griffin III joined ESPN in August 2021 and quickly became a notable presence across various platforms, including “Monday Night Countdown,” the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff, Pro Bowl, NFL Draft, and Heisman Trophy ceremony.
His work earned him a Sports Emmy nomination in 2023 for Outstanding Personality Emerging On-Air Talent, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in sports broadcasting.
As Griffin navigates this career transition, it’s clear that he and Grete are focused on maintaining a positive outlook and continuing to contribute to causes they care about.
While the future may be uncertain, Griffin’s resilience and determination suggest that new opportunities may be on the horizon.
