Michael Thomas, the former Offensive Player of the Year, is currently seeking a new team following his release from the New Orleans Saints. However, before he can fully focus on his football career, he must address legal issues stemming from an incident in November.
Thomas faced charges of battery and criminal mischief after allegedly shoving a contractor and damaging the man’s phone and vehicle. According to reports, Thomas is expected to enter a six-month pre-trial diversion program, with the charges set to be dropped upon completion.
His attorney emphasized Thomas’ cooperation with authorities throughout the process and highlighted his commitment to moving forward with his football career.
Though Thomas’ attorney, Daniel “Becket” Becnel, said the charges had been dismissed due to “lack of evidence,” the Kenner City Attorney’s Office and Kenner police clarified Wednesday evening that Thomas’ charges had not been dropped.
Thomas must first completed six months of pre-trial diversion for the charges of charges of simple battery and criminal mischief, according to court records.
Once considered one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL, Thomas has faced setbacks in recent years, playing in a limited number of games. Despite his past success, injuries and off-field issues have impacted his availability on the field.
In 2019, Thomas had a standout season, leading the league in receptions and setting records for receiving yards and catches. However, his playing time has been significantly reduced since the 2020 season, with injuries and missed games affecting his performance.
Now 31 years old, Thomas faces the challenge of proving himself as a top wide receiver once again, especially as he looks to join a new team for the first time in his career. Resolving his legal matters will allow him to focus on revitalizing his career and making a positive impact wherever he lands in the NFL.
