Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is facing serious charges.
This week, Mahomes Sr. was charged with a felony count of driving while intoxicated for a third time or more, as reported by TMZ Sports. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The incident occurred before the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on February 3rd, when Mahomes Sr. was arrested in Texas after showing signs of impairment during a routine traffic stop. Reports indicate that he admitted to consuming multiple beers before driving and had an open alcoholic beverage in the car.
According to court records, Mahomes Sr. was slapped with the count — driving while intoxicated third or more — on Thursday.
If convicted, he’ll face up to 10 years behind bars … as well as a fine of up to $10,000.

This arrest came before his son led the Kansas City Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Despite attending the game in Las Vegas, Mahomes Sr. maintained a low profile to avoid detracting from his son’s moment.
When asked about his father at Super Bowl Opening Night, Patrick Mahomes responded, “Yeah, he’s doing good. I don’t want to really get into it too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is. It’s a family matter so I’ll just keep it to the family and that’s all I really have to say at this point.”
Mahomes Sr. has faced two prior DWI charges, including public intoxication in 2016 during a game between TCU and Texas Tech, and a DWI offense in 2018.
In his younger years, Mahomes Sr. was an athlete himself, serving as an MLB pitcher from 1992 to 2003. He played for various teams, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He later earned a spot in the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame.
