Uh, if you say so.
An NFL head coach claims that the Chicago Bears are deciding between drafting USC’s Caleb Williams and another quarterback when the make their first-round selection in next week’s NFL draft.
The Bears of course hold the first overall pick and it is considered highly likely that Williams name will be called.
DraftKings Sportsbook currently has Williams at -20000 to be the number 1 pick.
However, an unnamed NFL head coach would apparently take the value on betting J.J. McCarthy who is listed at +6000.
This from MLFootball via NFL Network.
“REPORT: The #Bears decision should come down to Caleb Williams or JJ McCarthy for the 1st overall pick, an unnamed #NFL head coach said.”
“You’re never going to be in that spot again, so you better get the right guy,” said one head coach with a strong track record on QBs. “When [McCarthy] did throw it and he had to throw it, it was pretty impressive, man. He beat Alabama — he had to make big-time throws in that game, and he did. If I was Chicago, I’d be bringing in Caleb and J.J. this week and grinding the s— out of those two. Because there’s not enough evidence to say Caleb is clearly No. 1.”
Maybe the “unnamed NFL head coach” is McCarthy’s former head coach at Michigan and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh?
That’s really the only explanation that can be gathered here.
Regardless, it’s very likely that the Bears are not deciding on drafting anybody else besides Williams and it would be possibly the biggest shocker in NFL draft history if Williams’ name is not called before any other draft prospect’s
