Yankees fans are expressing their discontent.
During Friday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees fans directed their frustration toward the long-serving general manager, Brian Cashman. With the Yankees virtually certain to miss the postseason for the first time since 2016, fans initiated a “fire Cashman” chant and displayed signs conveying their dissatisfaction with the front office executive.
While star outfielder Aaron Judge acknowledged the fans’ frustration, he also emphasized that the entire team bears responsibility for a lackluster 2023 season.
“Fans aren’t happy,” Judge remarked, as reported by Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post. “The ones who faithfully attend every single night, investing their hard-earned money to watch us win games, and this year, we haven’t delivered.
“I believe that as an organization, from the top down, we all share in the responsibility. As players, we shoulder the most significant part of that responsibility. We’re the ones on the field, playing night in and night out.”

Cashman had signed a four-year contract extension last December, which will keep him with the team through the 2026 season. Since taking the helm as general manager in 1998, Cashman played a role in the Yankees’ capture of four World Series championships. However, the franchise has not reached the Fall Classic since 2009.
