Will Kyler Murray ever don a Cardinals jersey again?
The Arizona Cardinals have opened Kyler Murray’s practice window this week, but the return of the star quarterback to actual game action remains uncertain. Moreover, questions loom over Murray’s future with the franchise.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, it will likely be several weeks before Murray makes his game comeback. There’s a possibility that the former first overall pick will step back onto the field on either November 5 against the Cleveland Browns or November 12 against the Atlanta Falcons. The Cardinals are taking a cautious approach with Murray, who suffered a torn ACL in December last year.

Rapoport also emphasized that “all options are on the table” for 2024. The Cardinals currently hold a 1-5 record and are in the running for the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft. This position could offer them the chance to select another potential franchise quarterback should the general manager, Monti Ossenfort, and head coach, Jonathan Gannon, opt for a change.
Murray has five years remaining on his contract, with approximately $182 million left of the $230.5 million deal he signed prior to last season. Assuming the 26-year-old returns to full health, he’s likely to attract substantial interest from teams in need of a quarterback.
While one NFL insider had previously speculated that the Cardinals would keep Murray sidelined for the entire 2023 season for contractual reasons, it seems that is not the current plan, regardless of whether the team opts to stick with Murray long term.
The future of Kyler Murray with the Cardinals remains uncertain, despite initial expectations of a good fit.
