So why did Kirk leave Minnesota for Atlanta?
After spending six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Kirk Cousins decided that this offseason marked the appropriate time for a change.
When questioned about his decision to sign a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons, Cousins acknowledged his interest in securing a long-term deal to conclude his NFL journey.
“In Minnesota, it was trending over the last couple offseasons to be somewhat more year-to-year,” Cousins said in his introductory press conference Wednesday. “As we talked with Atlanta, it felt like this is a place where if I play at the level I expect to play, that I can retire a Falcon.

Expressing excitement at the prospect, Cousins emphasized: “That was something that really excited me; that’s certainly the goal. You’ve got to earn the right to do that, but that was exciting to feel like I could get that opportunity here.”
Set to celebrate his 36th birthday in August, Cousins will be 39 when he potentially concludes his tenure with the Falcons. Presently, he is slated to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2027 season.
Here’s to hoping Kirk can stay healthy.
