Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s NFL Draft prospects have been on the rise recently.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, McCarthy showcased impressive athleticism by posting the fastest three-cone and second-fastest 20-yard shuttle times among quarterbacks, despite opting out of the 40-yard dash. Additionally, he delivered a solid performance in passing drills and weighed in at a beefed-up 219 pounds, a significant increase from his listed weight of 202 pounds during the season.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt believes McCarthy’s draft stock is skyrocketing, suggesting that he could be selected in the first 15 picks, with a possibility of even cracking the top 10.
“J.J. McCarthy is going to be a really good NFL quarterback,” Klatt commented. “He plays a selfless brand of football, he’s incredibly athletic, he spins it, he makes plays, he’s a winner, and he doesn’t care who gets the credit. Every organization in the NFL is looking for players like that and in particular at that position.”
I might be surprised if he’s not taken in the top 10. That’s the type of momentum that he’s generating.

While USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels are often considered the top three quarterbacks in this year’s draft class, McCarthy’s recent performances have positioned him as a strong contender to be the fourth signal caller chosen.
If McCarthy continues to impress, he could potentially hear his name called within the top 10 selections when the draft commences in late April.
