Shohei Ohtani was universally loved, until now.
Shohei Ohtani is widely acknowledged as the top player in Major League Baseball and an exceptional athlete in professional sports.
His remarkable statistics attest to his prowess as a two-way player who leads all MLB players in slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs, and opponents’ batting average.
It is almost certain that he will win the 2021 AL MVP award.
However, the Los Angeles Angels have not capitalized on Ohtani and Mike Trout’s presence despite their talent. Remarkably, the Angels appear to be a playoff contender this year, which could change Fox Sports commentator Craig Carton’s assessment.
Carton, who is leaving his post at WFAN, has stated that Ohtani cannot be considered the best player in sports until he leads his team to the postseason.
“Best individual player in all of sports? Not if he’s never taken his team to a postseason, can’t be,” said Carton. “At some point, if you are the best individual in a team sport, you gotta take your team to the postseason. I’m not even saying you gotta win it all, but you gotta get to a postseason.”

However, this assessment does not consider that baseball is a team sport, and one individual player cannot carry a team into the playoffs.
Ohtani’s exceptional achievements as a pitcher and batter are already worthy of recognition. It is the Angels’ responsibility to support him with a strong team.
Clearly Carton reaching for a Hot Take.
