Last week, the Dallas Cowboys bolstered their running back lineup by re-signing Ezekiel Elliott, and there’s still talk of them looking to deepen their roster at that position.
However, rumors of the team pursuing a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris have been dismissed as unfounded.
NFL Network’s Jane Slater addressed these speculations on X/Twitter Monday night, clarifying the situation. “On these Najee Harris and Cowboys reports, a team source tells me ‘click bait,'” she posted. In a follow-up response to a fan, Slater added, “I didn’t think this was a thing” but affirmed her commitment to “always [being] here to run down these things.”

Harris, who was a first-round pick from Alabama in 2021, will be entering a crucial season as the Steelers declined to pick up his fifth-year option, setting him up for free agency in 2024.
In the 2023 season, Harris recorded 1,035 rushing yards and a career-high eight touchdowns on 255 carries, alongside catching 29 passes for 170 yards. Throughout his tenure with Pittsburgh, the 6-foot-1, 242-pound back has accumulated 3,269 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 834 carries.
As it stands, Elliott is poised to start as Dallas’ lead running back this fall, following the team’s inability to secure additional backfield talent in the NFL Draft. The Cowboys’ running back depth also includes Rico Dowdle, 2023 sixth-round pick Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Royce Freeman.
