At the end of June, Christian McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo celebrated their marriage in a lavish ceremony at a luxurious hotel near Taylor Swift’s residence in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. The event was graced by a plethora of NFL stars eager to join in the celebration of the couple’s union.
The 49ers had a strong presence, with head coach Kyle Shanahan, tight end George Kittle, and quarterback Brock Purdy among those in attendance.
Additionally, McCaffrey invited several former teammates from his time with the Carolina Panthers, including Greg Olsen, Luke Kuechly, and Jonathan Stewart. However, one notable absence from the guest list was McCaffrey’s former quarterback, Cam Newton.
Newton, who shared a strong on-field connection with McCaffrey, throwing 12 touchdown passes to the running back during their three seasons together on the Panthers, was conspicuously missing. During a recent episode of the podcast “4th & 1,” Newton expressed his surprise and disappointment at not being invited, revealing that he only learned about the wedding after seeing a picture of Olsen online.

Newton speculated that his exclusion might be due to Brock Purdy’s presence at the wedding, suggesting that McCaffrey might have wanted to avoid any potential awkwardness related to the “game manager” comments Newton had made about Purdy the previous year.
However, McCaffrey quickly addressed the speculation by commenting on the podcast, explaining that the reason Newton wasn’t invited was simply because he had been unable to reach him. McCaffrey mentioned that he had tried to contact Newton multiple times over the past four years without receiving a response.
In response, Newton asked McCaffrey to send him his number again, indicating a willingness to reconnect.
While Newton missed out on the wedding, this exchange hints at the possibility of a future reunion between the two former teammates.
