The Carolina Panthers have upgraded their pass rush heading into the 2024 NFL season.
This from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:
“Sources: #Panthers and free agent pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney have agreed to terms.”
“It’s a 2-year, $20M deal for Clowney, with a max value of $24M.”
The New York Jets had been “highly motivated” to sign Jadaveon Clowney, but he heads to Carolina on a two-year, $20 million deal.
The pass rusher had a productive season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 as he matched a career-high of 9.5 sacks.
He also recorded 43 tackles and forced two fumbles.
Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 19th-best edge rusher in 2023.
“Clowney set career highs in pass-rush win rate and pressure rate while finishing ninth among all edge players in run-stop rate (9.6%),” PFF’s Lauren Gray noted. “He led Baltimore’s edge group in total pressures (78), stops (28) and tackles for loss or no gain (seven). “
Clowney was drafted out of the University of South Carolina with the first overall pick in 2014 by the Houston Texans.
He made three straight Pro Bowls with the Texans from 2016 to 2018.
Clowney has also played for the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, the Tennessee Titans in 2020, the Cleveland Browns in 2021 and 2022, and the aforementioned Ravens in 2023.
