Stephen A. Smith is weighing in.
Stephen A. Smith addressed Shannon Sharpe’s buyout from Fox Sports 1 and shared his thoughts on it. He mentioned that he wasn’t surprised by Sharpe’s decision to leave the network.
“I meant what I said. I respect the brother. If he wants to come on First Take, I’m here for it. I support him. He wants to go elsewhere, that’s fine. He wants to get his own show and he’s got his own aspirations, I’m fine with that, too,” Smith said.

Smith expressed his support for adding Sharpe to his own show, “First Take.” However, he clarified that he wasn’t looking for a full-time co-host. Smith also acknowledged Michael Irvin, who has not appeared on the show since being pulled from Super Bowl coverage due to allegations of misconduct with a female staffer.
“I welcome Sharpe to First Take, but it would be in the mix of being a part of the family,” he added. “I like the potpourri of contributors.”
Smith and Bayless worked together on ESPN’s “First Take” for years before Bayless left for Fox Sports. Sharpe is expected to speak on his departure from Fox Sports once it’s official.
