A report has emerged with a reason behind why the New York Giants never pursued a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields.
The former Chicago Bears quarterback was acquired by the Steelers this offseason for just a sixth-round draft pick.
“REPORT: The New York #Giants never called the #Bears about Justin Fields, because they view him as a similar player to Daniel Jones.”
This led to some bewildered responses from football fans.

While both are mobile quarterbacks, Justin Fields game is much more run-oriented than Jones’.
Jones best rushing season was 708 yards in 2022 while Fields ran for 1,143 yards that same season.
It makes a bit of sense that the Giants may want to go away from a mobile quarterback and thus had no interest in Fields, but claiming that they are similar is quite a stretch.
The Giants current quarterback situation is up for grabs as Jones is recovering from an ACL injury and it doesn’t seem like the Giants have any interest in proceeding with him as their starter regardless.
DraftKings Sportsbook currently has the Giants listed at +175 to draft a quarterback with their first selection in the 2024 NFL draft.
As for Fields, he’s going to backup Russell Wilson initially with the Steelers, but the leash won’t be long if Wilson can’t regain his pre-Denver Broncos form.
