With the selection of Florida wide receiver Ricky Piersall, trade rumors have exacerbated even more that wide receivers Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk will be on a team other than the 49ers next season.
Aiyuk has garnered more attention as a trade target due to his contract situation, but Samuel’s name has been floated around.
Diana Russini of The Athletic spoke with Samuel and it sounds like he’s planning on playing the 2024 season with the 49ers.
“I spoke to Deebo Samuel on the phone and asked his reaction to the 49ers’ drafting of his potential replacement, and to the reports that they explored trading him. “I know what’s going on,” he said, “but it is what it is. I’m good staying with them. I’m chilling.””
The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots were cited as potential trade partners for Samuel, but NFL insider Jordan Schultz suggested it’s unlikely either AFC East team will acquire him, possibly due to the high asking price for the All-Pro.

Veteran NFL columnist Mike Silver disclosed that the 49ers are aiming for second- and third-round picks in exchange for Samuel.
However, given his recent performance dip and hefty contract, meeting these demands proves challenging for interested teams.
The 49ers might opt to retain all their offensive weapons for the 2024 season alongside Brock Purdy, then review their options during the offseason.
Moreover, keeping Samuel on the roster strengthens the 49ers, implying that he contributes significantly to their overall team dynamic.
