You do the crime, you’re going to pay a fine.
Zay Flowers, the rookie wide receiver for the Baltimore Ravens, is feeling the financial repercussions of his infamous taunt during the AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The league has imposed a hefty $10,927 unsportsmanlike fine on Flowers, as reported by NFL Media.
The incident occurred during a critical moment in the game when the Ravens, trailing 17-7 against the Chiefs, seemed to have a chance for a comeback. In the third quarter with less than a minute remaining, Flowers made a pivotal 54-yard reception from Lamar Jackson, bringing the offense to the 10-yard line. However, after being tackled by L’Jarius Sneed, Flowers stood over the Chiefs cornerback, flexed, and spun the football, resulting in a clear taunting penalty. The officials promptly penalized Baltimore 15 yards, pushing them out of the red zone.
This taunting penalty played a significant role in the Ravens’ late-game collapse. Just four plays after the infraction, Jackson completed a pass to Flowers, who then fumbled while reaching for the goal line. The Chiefs recovered the ball in the end zone, dealing a decisive blow to Baltimore’s hopes of reaching the Super Bowl. Expressing frustration, Flowers cut his finger on the sideline after slamming his helmet on the bench.

Despite this costly ending, Flowers had an impressive rookie season, contributing significantly with 77 receptions for 858 yards and five touchdowns in 16 regular-season games.
Additionally, Flowers’ teammate, Travis Jones, received a $6,700 fine for a hit on Patrick Mahomes that resulted in a roughing the passer penalty.
