Cameron Brink finds herself among a distinguished group in women’s basketball.
Chosen as the No. 2 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, she and her peers are drawing unprecedented attention to the sport, from college arenas to professional courts.
At 22, Brink is thrilled to see her sport celebrated, appreciating the spotlight on its talented players. Yet, she shared on a recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George that the timing of this recognition feels somewhat puzzling. “It’s like, ‘Why now?’ It’s a great shift,” Brink commented on the increasing focus on women’s basketball. “I think our draft class is special, but there [were] so many draft classes before us that have been just as talented.”
Brink highlighted a crucial point: numerous talented and influential players have preceded her, yet they didn’t receive the recognition they deserved. She believes the current surge in interest is largely media-driven: “It has to do with the media—where they water the grass, it grows,” she observed.
Reflecting on her own path in basketball, Brink credits her achievements to those who paved the way, including her mother, who played college basketball thanks to the Title IX law, and both current and former WNBA stars.

“I hope the vets know, [there’s] so much respect from my end,” she expressed. “It’s because of them that we’re here now,” Brink acknowledged the foundational role these veterans have played in advancing women’s basketball.
