Footage from the game shows Clark relaying details of the encounter to her teammate NaLyssa Smith. Smith’s reaction seemed to indicate that whatever was said to Clark by the fan was inappropriate or offensive, as she appeared visibly upset after hearing Clark’s account of the exchange.
Following the game, the WNBA issued a public statement, which, although not specifically naming Clark or referencing the incident directly, seemed to address the situation. In the statement, the league emphasized that it will not tolerate “racist, threatening, or derogatory comments about players, teams, or anyone affiliated with the league.”
The WNBA further stated that “appropriate measures,” including the potential involvement of law enforcement, would be taken in response to any “threat-related activity” involving fans.
