Taylor Swift will be attending the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards solo, as her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, won’t be able to accompany her due to professional commitments. Page Six exclusively reports that the Kansas City Chiefs star tight end is tied up with work responsibilities, making it impossible for him to attend the star-studded event at the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.
A source close to the situation revealed, “Travis had to be back in Kansas City by Tuesday for practice,” adding that the Chiefs are gearing up for their Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sept. 15. Kelce and the Chiefs are fresh off a victory in Week 1, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 27-20. Swift was present at the game, cheering for Kelce from a private VIP suite alongside his parents.
Following the game, the couple celebrated the win in Kansas City, where Swift reportedly enjoyed herself, even getting a bit tipsy, according to insiders. After their Kansas City festivities, the duo flew to New York for a whirlwind weekend, including attending a wedding, enjoying the US Open, and going on multiple dinner dates. However, while Kelce has returned to Kansas City to prepare for the next game, Swift is ready to take center stage at the VMAs.
As the most-nominated artist of the night, Swift is poised for a historic evening. She leads the pack with 10 nominations, including top categories like Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Song of the Summer, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Collaboration with Post Malone for the hit song “Fortnight.” Swift is also in the running for Artist of the Year, Best Pop, and the VMAs Most Iconic Performance for her classic hit, “You Belong With Me.”
Swift, who has already racked up 23 VMA wins throughout her illustrious career, could break a significant record during the ceremony. She’s on the verge of surpassing Beyoncé, who currently holds the title for the most VMA wins by a solo artist with 29. If Swift takes home a few more trophies, she could make awards show history as the solo artist with the most wins ever.
Other stars expected to have a big night at the VMAs include Katy Perry, who will receive the prestigious Video Vanguard Award and perform a medley of her greatest hits, and Megan Thee Stallion, who will not only take the stage as a performer but also serve as this year’s host.
While Kelce may not be by her side at the event, Swift’s night promises to be monumental as she continues to cement her legacy in the music industry.
Fans can tune in to the MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live on Wednesday night starting at 8 p.m. ET, to see how the evening unfolds and whether Swift can break yet another record in her already groundbreaking career.
