Always box out, boys and girls.
St. John’s basketball head coach Rick Pitino went viral for basically calling his team a bunch of bums after a loss to Seton Hall on Sunday.

West Virginia forward Quinn Slasinski played for Pitino while at Iona College from 2021 to 2023 and had a hilarious story when asked by reporters as to whether Pitino’s recent rant surprised him.
Slasinski said that he was not at all surprised and then, after some hesitation, Slasinski told a story about what Pitino once said to him after he didn’t box out during an Iona practice.
With a smile, Slasinski said that Pitino once threatened to “chop him up into seven pieces and send him back to Detroit or Houston or wherever the bleep he’s from.”
It is probably safe to assume that the notoriously intense Pitino has never chopped a player up into several pieces and shipped them back home. However, one can never rule it out.
In his first year with St. John’s, Pitino has led his team to 15 wins against 12 losses with a 7-9 record in Big East Conference play which apparently suffices to be the most “unenjoyable” coaching experience of Pitino’s lifetime.
