According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Washington Commanders are firmly positioned to select their future quarterback, steadfastly holding onto the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft.
Russini reported that despite interest from other teams looking to trade up, Washington’s General Manager, Adam Peters, has made it clear the team is committed to selecting their quarterback with their current draft position.
This aligns with the team’s sentiments of feeling confident and prepared at the second pick.

Speculation had circulated that the Commanders might consider trading down if the right offer came along, but indications are they have a clear target in mind.
Throughout the draft process, the team has been consistently linked to UNC’s Drake Maye and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. Maye is seen as a developmental prospect, whereas Daniels is regarded as a ready-to-play dual-threat quarterback, despite concerns about his size.
With new leadership in place, including new ownership and a new head coach, the Commanders are just missing a franchise quarterback to complete their new era. Historically, Washington has had fleeting success at the quarterback position, with memorable seasons from Kirk Cousins and Robert Griffin III, but nothing solid since the days of Mark Rypien or Joe Theismann.
The Commanders are hopeful that their choice at No. 2 in the draft, just over 48 hours away, will mark a turning point for the franchise at the quarterback position.
