The bizarre Wander Franco case regarding his inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl in the Dominican Republic is getting even more disturbing.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Juan Arturo Recio reported on new details that have emerged in the Dominican Republic’s case against Tampa Rays shortstop Wander Franco.

Most notably, Wander Franco allegedly had a disturbing interaction on WhatsApp with the underage girl according to prosecutors in which he said that he “wanted to raise her his way.” Here’s what Passan and Recio detailed in the above report,
“For most of the final two months of their relationship last year, Franco was in spring training with the Rays. After the season began, the relationship strained, and she started seeing someone else. After she told Franco, they talked over WhatsApp, according to the file presented to prosecutors.
Franco wrote: “I would like you to forget everything you have learned to raise you my way.”
She responded: “And what is your way? Without love? Without respect?”
Franco replied: “There was more to it but you’re just a girl and you don’t know how to get along with me, that’s why you failed, but I’ll give you only one chance, you must be only for me. Don’t look at anyone, I know you’ve been with someone else, but no one will know how to use you the way I want.””
It should also be noted that the girl’s mother played a role in this as she began to extort money from Franco once she found out about the relationship asking for up to 100,000 pesos per month ($1700 USD).
There’s no word on when the Tampa Bay Rays will officially release Franco from his 11-year, $82 million contract he signed in 2021, but it certainly looks like Franco’s days in the MLB — and possibly as a free man — are all but over.
