The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly made a decision regarding Kirk Cousins’ upcoming free agency.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the NFC team is not inclined to offer the veteran quarterback another fully guaranteed deal, despite their admiration for him. Cousins’ current contract with the Vikings will expire after this year’s franchise tag deadline, leaving him free to explore options with other teams once the new NFL year kicks off in mid-March.
While Cousins secured fully guaranteed contracts in his last two negotiations with the Vikings, Breer indicates that the team is reluctant to extend such terms this time around. Now 35 and recovering from an Achilles injury, Cousins faces a different landscape.
“The current Minnesota leadership, entering its third season, holds Cousins in high regard. However, they are not willing to match the fully guaranteed deals offered by the previous regime. Without that assurance, Cousins finds himself in a position similar to six years ago, albeit older and recovering from injury.”

In light of this, Cousins is expected to command a salary in line with quarterbacks like Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, and Geno Smith from last year, with figures ranging from $30 million to possibly even $45 million per season.
It appears that the Vikings are interested in retaining Kirk Cousins, but they are not fully committed to their veteran quarterback.
