Patrick Mahomes is spilling the beans.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes shared their love story in the first episode of the Netflix series “Quarterback.”
Surprisingly, Patrick had to work his way out of the friend zone to catch Brittany’s attention.
They first met in seventh and eighth grade, but being a grade below her, Patrick found himself stuck in the friend zone. He would walk her to class and try to flirt but without success.
However, when Patrick was a sophomore and Brittany a junior in high school, he decided to make a move by giving her a rose. Although he presented it as a joke, Brittany found it incredibly sweet. Their lunch table friends then started chanting for them to kiss, which made the situation awkward since they were just friends.
But this moment sparked Brittany’s interest, and she began to see Patrick in a different light. As the chanting continued, Brittany realized that Patrick was actually quite cute, and they started talking and eventually began dating. Their relationship grew from there, and they tied the knot in July 2022.
“I was like the best friend, in the friend zone forever,” he said. “I used to walk her to class and was trying to flirt. When I was a sophomore in high school, and she was a junior, I actually got her a rose and I was kinda, like, I had a crush on her. But I was giving the rose as a joke, but kind of a quotation ‘joke.’
Brittany then spoke:
“I thought it was the cutest thing in the world,” she said. “And then everyone at our lunch table started chanting, ‘Kiss him, kiss him!’ and made it really awkward ’cause we were ‘just friends.’ That’s kind of what started it and I thought it was cute.
“So they were chanting and I thought it was kind of awkward, and it was funny, and then we just kind of… I was like, ‘OK, this guy is actually kind of cute. Maybe I do like him.’ So then we just started talking and then started dating.”

The Netflix series “Quarterback” not only features the Mahomes family’s love story but also includes interviews with other quarterbacks such as Marcus Mariota from the Philadelphia Eagles and Kirk Cousins from the Minnesota Vikings.
As an exceptional quarterback, Patrick Mahomes led the league in passing yards with 5,250 and touchdown passes with 41 in the previous season. As a result, he deservedly won his second NFL MVP Award.
