As the old saying goes, sometimes the best way to win is simply not to play.
During the final game of the ACLS, Mattress Mack, whose real name is Jim McIngvale, maintained a somber demeanor as he watched his beloved Houston Astros lose to the Texas Rangers in Game 7 on Monday night.
In addition to being a devoted Astros fan, Mattress Mack is known for placing substantial wagers on the team. In this particular game, had the Astros emerged victorious, he would have netted a remarkable $26.5 million payout.

McIngvale, who made headlines for winning $75 million when the Astros clinched the World Series title the previous year, wasn’t as fortunate this time. The game ended with a decisive 11-4 victory for the Texas Rangers.
The Astros struggled early in the game, falling behind 3-1. The Rangers wasted no time, hitting three home runs within the first six innings. Corey Seager’s 440-foot homer in the first inning set the tone, and Texas continued to dominate.
McIngvale had three separate wagers on the Astros, totaling $3 million in bets. However, the potential $26.5 million payout made the risk worthwhile. As evident in the reaction above, he was clearly distressed while witnessing the Astros falter.
Despite his sizable win in 2022, Mack has a knack for choosing the wrong team and has developed a reputation similar to Drake’s when it comes to betting. Nonetheless, he will undoubtedly return to wagering on the Astros at the next opportunity.
There’s no doubt that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Mattress Mack; he’ll surely be back.
