The Cleveland Browns have yet to disclose the full severity of quarterback Deshaun Watson’s injury sustained during Sunday’s game. However, circulating videos online have sparked concerns that Watson’s season could be in jeopardy.
Watson suffered what appeared to be a serious non-contact injury late in the first half of the Browns’ Week 7 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland. The quarterback went down after planting his right foot awkwardly, and moments later, an emotional Watson was seen being carted off the field, visibly shaken with tears in his eyes.
Former Los Angeles Chargers head team physician, Dr. David Chao, added to the growing speculation by sharing a zoomed-in video clip on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, Watson’s Achilles tendon is seen moving in a way consistent with a rupture as he plants his foot. Dr. Chao captioned the clip, “By video, clear right Achilles tendon rupture. Telltale calf reverberation. Surgery and season over.”

If Watson’s injury is confirmed as an Achilles tendon rupture, it would mark the second consecutive year that his season ends prematurely due to injury.
Last year, Watson missed Cleveland’s final eight regular-season games, as well as their Wild Card round contest against the Houston Texans, due to shoulder issues.
While losing a starting quarterback would generally be devastating for any fan base, the response from Browns supporters has been mixed. Watson’s injury history and recent struggles have left some fans feeling indifferent, with a segment of the fan base showing less concern about his potential absence, given the team’s underwhelming performances in recent weeks.
Whether Watson’s season is officially over remains to be seen, but the uncertainty casts a shadow over the Browns’ outlook for the remainder of the year.
