Victor Wembanyama’s NBA career had a slow start in his first Summer League game.
Despite playing in front of a sold-out crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Wembanyama struggled to find his rhythm and only managed to score nine points.
He did, however, contribute with eight rebounds and five blocks, showcasing his defensive prowess.
Unfortunately, his shooting was off, as he made only two of his thirteen shot attempts, shooting around 15% from the field.
Despite the less-than-ideal performance, Wembanyama remains determined to improve and adjust to the NBA style of play.
He expressed his desire to do better in the future and hopes to continually improve his game.
“Just gotta get acclimated to the new style of play … Next time, I’m going to do better,” Wembanyama said on ESPN after the game. “I hope to do better every time.”

As the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, Wembanyama has high expectations placed upon him.

His exceptional talent has been compared to that of LeBron James, and he has already made history as the first-ever No. 1 pick from France. Moreover, he is the first European player in over a decade to go first in the draft without playing college basketball in the NCAA.
Prior to his NBA debut, Wembanyama had an impressive season in the French LNB Pro A league, leading in points, rebounds, and blocks, earning both the league MVP title and guiding his team to the Finals.
