Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis tragically passed away on Monday at a residence in Southwest Ranches, Florida.
Details surrounding the 911 call that was made to police emerged yesterday as it was reported that Davis’ personal assistant made the call after discovering him unresponsive in the home gym area of the residence.
No foul play in the 35-year-old’s untimely death is suspected, according to police.

Davis was best known for his time with the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017 with whom he made two Pro Bowls.
Davis also played for the Miami Dolphins from 2009 to 2011 and briefly for the Buffalo Bills in 2018 which is when he famously retired from the NFL in the middle of Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Vontae’s older brother, Vernon Davis, also had a lengthy career in the NFL as the two-time Pro Bowl tight end played for the San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Washington from 2006 to 2019.
The 40-year-old has now spoken out and revealed some details surrounding his brother’s passing.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Vernon stated that his younger brother either collapsed or slipped moments after stepping out of a sauna.
“This thing definitely caught me by surprise. I just don’t know what to make of it. I’m leaning on the detectives to figure it out but right now we have no answers. They are going to run tests and they said they’ll get back to us. It could be as long as a month, a month and a half, until we know anything.”
Vernon paid a heartwarming tribute to his brother in the interview.
“He was like my son. We were four years apart but I remember waking him up to do workouts when he was young and I was in high school. I made him do it because I wanted him to succeed even more than I wanted myself to succeed. I’m proud of him for his great work ethic, for his ability, his discipline. For understanding the difference between being good and great at something and for putting in the work. We were the difference makers in our family. We came from a tough background but we had goals and aspirations to be better than the space we came out of. I could not have picked a better little brother.”
It has been reported that Vontae had concerns about the risks of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from his time playing in the NFL and that Vontae’s ex-wife Megan Harpe did suggest in a text message to the Daily Mail that she believes he was suffering from the condition.
However, Vernon says that Vontae appeared to be in good health recently and never brought up CTE to him.
“Maybe that’s the case, maybe it’s not. We don’t really have an answer to that because there is no way to see into our brain while we live. Vontae never really showed a history of using drugs or anything like that. I was at his house two weeks ago and he had the massage therapist there. He had a stretch therapist, a chiropractor, you name it.”
