Caleb Williams, a prominent football player, is widely recognized for his exceptional skills as the quarterback for the University of Southern California Trojans.
Last year, the 21-year-old was honored with the prestigious Heisman Trophy, which acknowledged him as the most outstanding player in college football.
Recently, Williams made an appearance in an advertisement for Dr Pepper’s Fansville campaign, which is centered around the current football season.
In the ad, the quarterback reveals his preference for Dr Pepper Strawberries & Cream and is even shown getting a maroon and white “I Heart Dr Pepper” polish manicure.
Surprising many, Williams opened up about his fondness for manicures, explaining that he has been painting his nails even before college.
Despite the rarity of male football players engaging in nail painting, Williams sees it as a form of self-expression, stating, “It’s just another way of expression.”
“I think the nails thing kind of took everybody by surprise,” Williams told PEOPLE. “I’ve been doing it before college, but it took everybody by surprise, just because you don’t always see male athletes who play football paint their nails. But I think it’s just another way of expression.”
Notably, Williams’ mother Dayna, a former nail technician, also appears in the ad and shares the origin of this tradition.
She expresses delight in the unique bonding experience they share and admires her son’s ability to explore various aspects of his life beyond football.
Beyond the commercial, Dr Pepper has partnered with Williams’ foundation, Caleb Cares, which focuses on combatting bullying, empowering youth, and raising awareness about mental health.
The details of this collaboration will be announced later this fall. Moreover, on August 30, Dr Pepper will make “Fanicures” nail kits available for purchase on their website.
These kits, inspired by Williams, will allow fans to showcase their support on all ten fingers.
The nail kit will feature two bottles of nail polish in Dr Pepper’s signature maroon and white colors, as well as college football-themed nail decorations.
