Football serves as a stark reminder that it is a contact sport.
The Buffalo Bills clashed with the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football during Week 6. The game got off to a slow start, with the Giants taking a 6-0 lead in the second quarter. However, a significant moment came on third-and-1 with just over three minutes left in the first half when Damien Harris powered through the line for a hard-fought first down. After the play concluded, Harris remained on the ground.
Medical professionals attended to Harris as he lay on the field, and eventually, an ambulance drove onto the field to transport him. Harris, a five-year veteran in his first season with Buffalo, gave a reassuring thumbs up gesture as he was taken away.
It appeared that Harris might have made contact with his helmet against linebacker Bobby Okereke’s shoulder. While it didn’t initially seem overly severe, the full-speed impact was indeed a substantial collision. Harris seemed to continue his effort before being taken down. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery.

Harris, 26, spent the first four years of his career with the New England Patriots and notably scored 15 rushing touchdowns for the Patriots in 2021.
According to Melissa Stark and the Buffalo Bills PR, Harris sustained a neck injury but has maintained movement in his arms and legs.
It’s also being reported he’s now out of the hospital recovering at home.
This update is heartening, and it underscores the importance of the NFL’s ongoing efforts to prioritize player safety.
