Three days after Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis revealed he was removed from a United Airlines flight and placed in handcuffs due to a misunderstanding, the airline has issued an apology for its actions.
“This is clearly not the kind of travel experience we strive to provide, and we have reached out to Mr. Davis’s team to apologize,” United Airlines said in a statement via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “We have removed the flight attendant from duty while we closely review this matter.”
Davis, visibly upset, described his ordeal in a detailed Instagram post on Monday. He recounted how he had tapped a flight attendant’s arm to ask for a cup of ice, only to be confronted by law enforcement agents who removed him from the flight and handcuffed him upon landing in California from Denver.

“We as a family are having to have hard conversations with each other about what transpired and answer the many questions that my children have,” Davis wrote, highlighting the emotional toll the incident has taken on his family.
The 51-year-old Davis, who made three All-Pro teams and won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2001, expressed his dismay and frustration over the incident, sparking widespread concern and calls for accountability.
The situation has brought to light significant issues regarding airline passenger treatment and the protocols followed by flight attendants and law enforcement in such circumstances.
As United Airlines conducts a thorough review, the aviation community and the public at large are closely watching for the outcome and any subsequent changes in policy to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
