According to a spokesperson for the Pearland Police Dept. speaking to TMZ Sports, Charlo was allegedly driving under the influence when he crashed his red Lambo, leading to a collision with another vehicle around 6:41 PM.
Reportedly, after a heated verbal exchange with the other driver, Charlo departed from the scene, an action deemed unlawful by authorities.
Despite police attempts to stop him, Charlo reportedly ignored their sirens until he was cornered by officers at a red light about a mile away from the crash site.
At the scene, authorities arrested the 33-year-old boxer.
Subsequent sobriety tests administered at the jail allegedly indicated signs of intoxication.
Charlo was then booked on three misdemeanor charges: driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of over .15, evading a police officer, and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage exceeding $200.
According to Charlo’s attorney, Kent Schaffer, drugs were not a factor in the incident, stating, “Jermall has been in training. He has not been using any type of drugs.”
Schaffer also indicated that as per his understanding, neither Charlo nor the other parties involved sustained injuries in the crash.
Expressing optimism, Schaffer stated, “We are optimistic that there will be a good solution.”
Jermall Charlo, boasting a perfect record of 33 wins and no losses, is the twin brother of boxing sensation Jermell Charlo.
His last fight occurred in November 2023, securing a victory over Jose Benvidez Jr. via decision.
Charlo was anticipated to face Canelo Alvarez next, but plans fell through in February.
Instead, Canelo fought Jaime Munguía over the weekend, emerging victorious with ease.
