Following the recent detainment of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the star athlete has been hesitant to revisit the footage of the incident. While Hill has only watched the video once, his family, particularly his wife and mother, can’t seem to stop replaying it.
In an interview with Taylor Rooks on Thursday Night Football, Hill opened up about the impact the detainment has had on him and his family. Despite his reluctance to revisit the incident, his wife and mother have watched the footage numerous times, with each viewing intensifying their frustration.
“I can’t watch it more than once,” Hill shared. “My mom and wife, they’ve probably watched it 100 times. And my mom, every time she watches it, she tells me, ‘I get madder and madder.’”
Hill, however, has taken a different approach to processing the situation. Rather than allowing the anger to build, he’s trying to focus on moving forward. “I told her, ‘Let’s not get mad. Let’s learn from this because the more we let anger consume us, the more we’re moving backward. It’s all about accountability on both sides.’”
Hill went on to describe the emotional toll the detainment has had on him, calling the experience “tough” and “traumatic.” His primary concern during the ordeal was for his wife, who is currently pregnant, and how the situation affected her.
“It’s tough, it’s hard,” Hill explained. “Going through something like that is traumatic, man. It’s embarrassing for my family, my kids, and especially my wife. I was worried for her, especially since she’s pregnant. So yeah, I’m still trying to piece it all together, put the puzzle together.”
The aftermath of the incident has led to one of the officers involved being placed on administrative leave, a move that has drawn significant attention. Hill’s representatives have gone on record, publicly calling for the officer to be dismissed from the police department.
For Hill, the detainment is more than just a personal ordeal; it’s a moment of reflection on accountability and how incidents like these impact the families of those involved.
While he continues to navigate the emotional repercussions, his focus remains on healing and learning from the experience, even as his family struggles with their own feelings about the situation.
