In spite of the Lakers’ impressive three-peat in the 2001 NBA Finals, it was Allen Iverson’s Game 1 performance that remained etched in everyone’s memory.
Iverson showcased his skills with a remarkable play, hitting a clutch baseline jumper and following it up with his iconic stepover on Ty Lue.
Recently, Lue discussed this moment on the All the Smoke podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
While downplaying its significance, Lue made it clear that the play’s legacy doesn’t bother him at all.
Lue explained, “People often exaggerate it, as if he crossed me over and I fell down, and then he stepped over me. What actually happened was that he hit a contested shot, I stumbled back and fell, and he stepped over me. Personally, it was never a big deal for me, and even till this day, it’s not a big deal.”
I understand Lue trying to downplay but that is definitely one of the more memorable moments of Allen Iverson’s career.
Better to be talked about for something like that than not to be talked about at all.
