As the NFL intensifies its enforcement of sports betting policies, players are increasingly cautious about placing wagers, even among themselves.
This week, it was revealed that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, former teammates at LSU, had agreed on a $10,000 bet regarding who would win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. However, following guidance on the league’s strict gambling rules, the two decided to cancel their wager.
“Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels have indeed called off their $10,000 bet about which will win the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year award after being instructed on the league’s gambling policy,” reported Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

The NFL has been rigorous in its crackdown on any form of sports betting by players, issuing suspensions frequently over the last few off-seasons for betting activities, even those not related to football.
While no player has faced a lifetime ban similar to what Jontay Porter received in the NBA, the repercussions have been severe enough to make players like Daniels and Nabers wary of risking their careers over a bet, especially so early in their professional journeys.
