Michael Oher is set to achieve his desired outcome as the Tuohy family plans to agree to a consent order to terminate their conservatorship of him, as confirmed by their lawyer to the Associated Press on Wednesday.
Seeking to end the conservatorship that has been in place since he was 18, Oher filed a petition in a Tennessee court on Monday, alleging that the family had deceived him and exploited him for financial gain related to the movie “The Blind Side.”
Oher claims that the family made millions off his name, while he received nothing.

In the court filing, Oher accuses the Tuohys of enriching themselves at his expense, stating that he discovered the truth about his adoption in February 2023 and that the conservatorship didn’t provide him with a familial relationship with the Tuohys.
“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher. Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact, provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys,” the court filing read according to ESPN’s Michael A. Fletcher.
Oher accuses the family of tricking him into signing papers to make them his conservators instead of his adoptive parents. He has demanded a full accounting of the assets associated with his name. The Tuohys’ lawyers argue that Oher was already aware that he wasn’t adopted since he referred to the couple as his conservators multiple times in his 2011 book.
They also claim that he has been estranged from the family for over ten years and that his recent behavior has been distressing for them.
The Tuohys released a statement with their legal team, dismissing Oher’s allegations as baseless and portraying his actions as an attempted extortion, citing his request for $15 million or a negative news story about him.
