Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift could be celebrating more than just their relationship during the Kansas City Chiefs’ bye week, according to NFL analyst Troy Aikman. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, 57, stirred speculation on the “Pardon My Take” podcast Wednesday, hinting that the Chiefs tight end, 35, may have recently proposed to the pop superstar.
“Someone actually reached out to me today and said they might actually be engaged,” Aikman revealed during the podcast, sparking buzz among Swift and Kelce fans alike.
Aikman’s comments came shortly after his on-air slip-up during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” broadcast, where he mistakenly referred to Swift, 34, as Kelce’s “missus” during the Chiefs’ 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints. The comment sent social media into a frenzy, but Aikman suggested that he might have been more accurate than people realized.
“So I might’ve actually broken a story,” Aikman said, adding fuel to the growing speculation around Swift and Kelce’s relationship status.
During Monday’s game, Kelce had one of his best performances of the season, racking up nine receptions for 70 yards. Swift was spotted in the stands, cheering enthusiastically alongside her father, Scott Swift, during the game’s most exciting moments. After one particularly impressive play by Kelce, cameras zoomed in on Swift’s reaction, leading to Aikman’s now-infamous line: “The missus likes it.”
Co-host Joe Buck quickly jumped in to correct Aikman, noting that Swift and Kelce were not married. Aikman acknowledged the correction but playfully responded, “Oh I know. I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”
Indeed, Aikman was right. Social media quickly latched onto the comment, with users calling out the mistake. However, the Hall of Fame quarterback seemed perplexed by the uproar, admitting on the podcast that he didn’t understand why it was such “a big deal.”
“Was I on a tightrope right there?” Aikman joked, adding that he was surprised to see so many headlines about the minor slip. “I’m thinking, ‘Gosh if this is newsworthy… like really?’”
Despite the speculation, there has been no official confirmation from Kelce or Swift about an engagement. Reps for Kelce declined to comment, and Swift’s team did not immediately respond to requests for clarification.
Swift and Kelce have dominated headlines ever since their romance became public last summer. Though rumors of a potential engagement have been swirling for months, there has been no concrete evidence that the couple has taken that next step—at least not yet.
However, insiders have suggested that Swift and Kelce are serious about their relationship, with sources in August hinting that the two may move beyond the “boyfriend-girlfriend” stage sooner rather than later.
Whether or not the engagement rumors are true, the pairing of Kelce and Swift continues to capture the public’s imagination. And with Aikman’s latest comments, fans will be watching even more closely to see if this power couple is ready to make things official.
