Another member of the historic 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series championship team has tragically passed away.
Popular knuckleball pitcher Tim Wakefield sadly passed away of brain cancer in October of 2023 at the age of 57.
Now, it has been announced that former first baseman and outfielder Dave McCarty passed away on Friday at the age of 54 in Oakland, California due to a “cardiac event.”
The Red Sox made the announcement of McCarty’s passing.
“Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Dave McCarty. Playing 3 seasons with the Red Sox, he will forever be a part of the curse-breaking 2004 World Series championship team. We send our love to his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine.”

Tributes poured in for McCarty from his former Red Sox teammates.
“You never know when it’s the last time you will see someone. Grateful to share an amazing 04 Reunion and a flight back home to the Bay Area with Dave McCarty. A great father, husband, teammate, and friend. Thank you Big Mac for teaching me how to be a Big Leaguer!#04WSChamp“
“Just too much death. Dave McCarty was a good man. He was a guy that never took a single day in the Big Leagues for granted. He worked for everything he got. 54 is too young. Just another reminder of how precious life is. Too many reminders lately!!”
McCarty had just recently attended the Red Sox World Series Reunion at Fenway Park in Boston on April 9 to commemorate. the 20th anniversary of the historic World Series championship where they paid tribute to Tim Wakefield, and his late wife Stacy, who also passed away due to cancer in February 2024.
McCarty was a former third overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in 1991.
He played in the MLB from 1993 to 2005 for the Twins, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Oakland Athletics, and Red Sox.
Our condolences go out to the family, former teammates, and friends of McCarty.
