In a turn of events that transformed what seemed like an impending celebration for the AFC’s new No. 1 seed into a somber atmosphere, Jacksonville experienced a double blow as star wide receiver (WR) Marvin Jones Jr. and quarterback Trevor Lawrence both suffered injuries during a crucial game.
The night, initially poised for success, took a downturn when Lawrence, who had already achieved 258 passing yards and two touchdowns, sustained a lower leg injury.
The incident occurred when he was stepped on by Jacksonville offensive lineman Walker Little while attempting a pass, resulting in Lawrence bending backward awkwardly on the ground.

Lawrence, visibly in pain, tried to leave the field independently but collapsed before expressing his frustration by slamming his fists and helmet into the ground. With assistance from athletic trainers, he made his way to the sideline and eventually limped to the locker room.
Responding to the alarming injury, Lawrence’s wife, Marissa, shared her gratitude on her Instagram story, acknowledging the outpouring of prayers and support from well-wishers. Marissa, married to Lawrence since April 2021, attended Monday’s game at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville.
“Really overwhelmed by people’s kindness and love. Just wanted to share something positive and thank everyone truly for your prayers and support. Grateful to be surrounded by so many amazing people”
In Lawrence’s absence, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard took the field, completing 9 of 10 passes for 63 yards. The star quarterback, the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has maintained an injury-free career until this point.
Despite the challenges, the Jacksonville Jaguars remain at the top of the AFC South with an 8-4 record, securing the fourth seed in the conference’s playoff race. Lawrence’s resilience and determination, coupled with the team’s strong position, suggest a hopeful return once he recovers from his injury.
