Former LA Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer’s attempts to navigate his way back into Major League Baseball have been met with a mixture of controversy and skepticism, particularly from his former accuser, Lindsey Hill.
Recently, Hill re-engaged in the public discourse surrounding Bauer following his and his agent Rachel Luba’s comments about a potential legal battle with MLB.
Bauer, the 2020 NL Cy Young winner, hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that he might consider suing MLB as a last resort to re-enter the major leagues.
This came after a period of significant upheaval in his career, sparked by sexual assault allegations that led to his administrative leave and suspension from MLB.
In response to a fan’s inquiry about Bauer’s intentions to pursue legal action, his agent, Rachel Luba, seemed to dismiss the idea of continuing down a contentious path.
Luba stated, “No, we would prefer to not continue down the road of constant adversarial processes and put that all behind us. So, Trevor is currently trying to get himself back where he belongs in an amicable way.” This statement aimed to convey a desire to move forward without further legal entanglements.
However, Lindsey Hill quickly seized on what she perceived as a contradiction in Luba’s statement compared to Bauer’s implied threat of litigation.
Hill mocked the disparity in their statements, sarcastically remarking, “We prefer to not continue down that road of a lawsuit against MLB. So, Trevor is going about it in an amicable way… by publicly threatening to file a lawsuit against MLB.”
Hill also expressed a keen anticipation for the potential deposition process should Bauer proceed with a lawsuit against MLB.
Reflecting on her previous deposition experiences with Bauer, she tweeted, “Can’t wait for my deposition in this one! The last one made him cry, drop his fraudulent lawsuit & personally authorize my insurance to compensate me for damages. Please, let’s get the ball rollin’ on this – then all the evidence will become publicly available through a jury trial.”
Trevor Bauer’s MLB career has been on hold since July 2021, following the initial accusations. The league initially handed down a 324-game suspension in 2022, which was later reduced to 194 days after Bauer appealed.
The Dodgers subsequently cut ties with him in January 2023 by terminating his contract. Despite the end of his suspension, Bauer has found himself without interest from any major league teams, leading him to pitch in the Mexican Baseball League.
Despite his circumstances, Bauer has maintained that he remains superior to many starters currently in the majors.
This ongoing saga reflects not only the personal and professional conflicts between Bauer and Hill but also highlights the complexities and challenges that arise when public figures navigate serious allegations and attempts at career rehabilitation.
