During minicamp for the Kansas City Chiefs this week, Travis Kelce discussed his future in the NFL.
Kelce, 34, isn’t ready to announce when he’ll retire but emphasized his intention to play until he can’t anymore.
“I really can’t put a timeframe on it,” Kelce said, via ProFootballTalk. “I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there are opportunities outside of football for me. I think you’ve gotta keep in perspective that I’m a little kid when I come in this building. … I’m gonna do it until the wheels fall off. Hopefully, that doesn’t happen anytime soon. I can definitely understand that it’s closer to the end of the road than the beginning. I just gotta make sure I’m set up for after football as well.”
On Wednesday afternoon, Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones responded to Kelce’s remarks.
Jones, a five-time Pro Bowler, believes Kelce has several years left in his career.
“He’s got like four or five more years, and what is he talking about, right? We can’t let TK go. It’s like we retire, we’ve got to retire together,” Jones said, via ESPN. “Give me at least six, four years, then we’ll talk about it.”
The Chiefs clearly believe Kelce has at least a few more good seasons left, which is why they signed him to a $34.25 million extension.
Although Kelce’s streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons ended in 2023, he proved in the playoffs that he’s still the best tight end in the game, with 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns over four games.
Hopefully, Kelce’s incredible run with the Chiefs is far from over.
