Three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce might be fearless on the football field, but even he has his own personal fears—one of which recently turned into a nightmare that had him waking up in a cold sweat.
The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end has faced some of the toughest defenses the NFL has to offer, never backing down from a challenge on the gridiron. But off the field, it’s a different story, as Kelce recently revealed during the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his older brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
The conversation started out light, with the two brothers talking about different foods, eventually landing on the topic of hotdogs. That’s when Travis Kelce admitted to having an unusual nightmare involving a hotdog-eating competition.
“Honestly, dude, a hotdog-eating contest might be a nightmare,” Travis confessed. “I think I might have actually woken up in a dead sweat out of sleep one time because I was in a hotdog-eating contest against my will.”
Jason, always quick to tease his younger brother, immediately responded with disbelief and humor. “You had a hotdog-eating contest nightmare?” he asked, laughing.
Travis went on to elaborate on why the thought of a hotdog-eating contest was so horrifying to him. “Dude, I mean just the smell, and you’re stuffing yourself until you have to vomit,” he said. “And then I already have to vomit because of the texture.” The idea of being forced to eat countless hotdogs was enough to leave the usually tough and composed tight end visibly unsettled.
Not wanting to be outdone in the conversation, Jason then suggested an even more unpleasant scenario—a mayonnaise-eating contest. “Mayonnaise is worse than hotdogs,” he said, describing a competitive eating challenge where participants supposedly eat five jars of mayonnaise at a time.
“Nobody would ever do that,” Travis insisted, unable to hide his disgust.
But Jason persisted, insisting that it was a real thing. He even called on the podcast producer to look up video clips of mayonnaise-eating contests to prove his point. Travis, already uncomfortable, shuddered at the thought. “I got chills,” he admitted.
“I didn’t have lunch, Jason,” Travis added, clearly trying to change the subject. “I don’t wanna do this.”

Jason, however, wasn’t finished having fun with his younger brother. “I am about to throw up too,” Jason said, finally relenting. “That is so gross.” The conversation ended with both brothers clearly repulsed by the thought of either hotdogs or mayonnaise in large quantities, providing a humorous and very human moment for two of the NFL’s most well-known players.
This lighthearted episode of “New Heights” came on the heels of a more challenging week for Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Over the weekend, the Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Buffalo Bills. The highly anticipated matchup saw Kansas City go into the game with a perfect 9-0 record, only to lose 30-21 in a tough battle in Upstate New York.
Despite the loss, Travis remains one of the most respected players in the league, both for his athletic prowess and his engaging personality off the field.
The latest podcast episode highlighted that, even as a superstar athlete, Kelce is still just a regular guy—complete with strange fears, vivid nightmares, and a brother who loves to tease him.
The Kelce brothers’ candid conversations continue to offer fans a rare glimpse into their lives beyond football, showcasing the humor and camaraderie that have made their podcast a fan favorite.
