Travis Kelce is making some changes to his diet as he approaches his 35th birthday, acknowledging that he can no longer indulge in junk food the way he used to. The Kansas City Chiefs star opened up about his dietary adjustments during a conversation with his brother, Jason Kelce, on their popular “New Heights” podcast.
During Wednesday’s episode, the Kelce brothers were sent a box of Neil’s Donuts, prompting Travis to reflect on his current approach to sweets. Known for his love of pastries, especially LaMar’s Donuts from Kansas City, Travis admitted that he has to actively resist the temptation to indulge. “Good thing they’re over there,” Travis remarked, eyeing the donuts but keeping his distance.
“The yellow boxes are dangerous,” he joked, referencing the iconic packaging of LaMar’s Donuts.
The tight end explained that he’s at a point in the NFL season where he has to be more disciplined to stay in peak condition. “I’m just at that point in the season where I have to push it away,” Travis said. He painted a humorous picture of his internal struggle, describing how he often tells himself he’ll grab the treat tomorrow, knowing full well that he shouldn’t. “I see that golden glazed doughnut just sitting in the yellow box, and I’m like, ‘I don’t need that today, I’ll get it tomorrow,’ knowing that they don’t have boxes of doughnuts every day.”

He admitted that he sometimes lies to himself to avoid overindulging. “I just lie to myself so that I don’t grab 10 doughnuts, run around the corner, and stuff my face like a little fat kid,” he quipped.
Jason Kelce, who retired from the Philadelphia Eagles after a long 13-season career, chimed in with his own thoughts on the challenges of maintaining a healthy diet as an aging athlete. “It’s a sad day when you’re in your NFL career and you realize you’ve hit that age where you can’t just eat whatever you want anymore,” Jason shared.
Jason recalled that for most of his career, he would eat ice cream the night before games without a second thought. However, in his later seasons, he realized his body wasn’t handling it as well. “I got to year 12, ate some ice cream, and tried to play football the next day, and I was like, ‘Oh s–t. This is real,’” Jason said, laughing at the memory.
Travis couldn’t help but laugh, agreeing that indulging in desserts now makes him feel sluggish. “I just feel lethargic,” he admitted, before joking, “I just feel like a big blob. Am I bloated? Am I bloating?”
Despite Travis’s newfound focus on cutting back on sugar, Jason, who retired in March, said he’s looking forward to enjoying whatever he wants in retirement. “I’m going to keep eating these Buffalo wild wings and doughnuts,” Jason declared, embracing the post-career freedom.
Travis is set to celebrate his 35th birthday in style this Saturday with his Kelce Car Jam event, which will raise funds for his 87 & Running Foundation. However, one notable absence from the festivities will be his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, who is scheduled to perform her Eras Tour show in Stockholm that same evening.
As Travis continues to balance his career, diet, and personal life, his humorous reflections on aging and staying in shape resonated with fans who’ve followed his journey both on and off the field.
