Travis Kelce is proving he’s more than just the star tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs—he’s stepping into the spotlight as an actor. The 34-year-old NFL standout made his acting debut in the official trailer for Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX series, Grotesquerie, set to premiere later this month.
Introducing the trailer on social media, Kelce teased fans with a glimpse of what’s to come. “Check out the trailer for FX’s Grotesquerie,” he said. “That’s right, you might see some familiar faces.” In the eerie footage, Kelce delivers a chilling line in what appears to be a diner scene: “There’s no future after this.” The camera captures him in a white button-up shirt and blazer, though later in the trailer, he’s seen in a more casual look, wearing a white T-shirt, a chain, and a hoop earring.
The trailer primarily focuses on the show’s star, Niecy Nash, who plays Detective Lois Tyron. Nash’s character is deep into an investigation of “hellish” and “inhuman” murders. The plot appears to involve cults, rituals, and the dark underbelly of American life, with Nash’s character seeking help from a nun who also happens to be a journalist. “This killer is someone who knows anatomy,” Nash’s character ominously says. “The blood, the DNA—was left there for us to find… It’s like God left the keys to the candy store to the devil.”

News of Kelce’s casting in Grotesquerie first broke in May, and fans have been eager to see how the two-time Super Bowl champion would fare in his acting debut. Nash, who is 54, was quick to welcome Kelce to the cast with enthusiasm, sharing on-set videos of the two dancing between takes. “Don’t be fooled by the video,” Nash joked on Instagram. “We are working hard for @ryanmurphyproductions. In between shots is another story.”
Grotesquerie is just one of many projects that Kelce has taken on outside of football, particularly since his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift became public in the summer of 2023. His foray into acting is just part of his expanding portfolio. Kelce is also set to host the new Amazon Prime Video show Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? in October. Additionally, comedy legend Adam Sandler confirmed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that Kelce will make a cameo in the much-anticipated sequel to Happy Gilmore.
Kelce’s growing presence in the entertainment industry comes as no surprise to fans who have seen him thrive on and off the field. His charisma, which has made him a standout not just in the NFL but also in media appearances and commercials, is now translating into acting roles that show a different side of the athlete.
With his debut in Grotesquerie just around the corner, Kelce’s fans are eagerly awaiting to see how he handles the jump from the football field to the small screen. The first two episodes of Grotesquerie are set to premiere on FX on Wednesday, September 25, at 10 p.m., and if the trailer is any indication, Kelce is about to show the world he’s got more than just football talent.
As Kelce’s career continues to evolve, it’s clear that he’s not just a one-sport star.
From his ventures in television hosting, acting, and even a possible future in film, the NFL star is cementing his place in the entertainment world—one project at a time.
